It's expensive to run
assays. Assays are the only way to know what is in your scrap shipment.
When you send your scrap to a real refiner, they melt down your lot
into a solid chunk. After that has been done, they take a core sample
and test this a couple different ways. This must to be done, the assay
is critical to realizing your true value.
This brings us to the 24 hr guarantee. If they are truly refining, how
can they send you the scrap back if your not happy with the check?
Only
through refining can you discover whether your are being paid for 9kt
or 24kt. Anyone
can easily lower the karat level to alter the payout. No matter who you
send your scrap to make sure that an assay is done.
This all leads to what the majority of these sites are. Real refiners
will melt down your lot of alloy. They will run several types of tests
for a true assay. This will take weeks to settle not hours.
