Our Policy on Silver Amalgam
Due to the fact that silver
amalgams contain mercury, usedgold.com will not include any
amalgam material in your refining.
Used-gold.com is however,
dedicated to our environment, and we will do anything we can do to make
our globe safer and cleaner for our children.
Silver amalgam that contains
mercury in large quantities should be shipped to certified mercury
removal centers. This can be expensive and the proper hazard shipping
containers should always be used. That being said, we at used-gold.com
understand that often times, silver amalgam material, in the form of
extractions and left over slag, may make it into your scrap lots. For
this reason, we will sort through your scrap lots before sending your
alloys to our refiners. Any silver/mercury amalgam material will be
separated and stored for proper disposal.
The amalgam material, while
holding some value in silver, must be separated from the mercury.
Companies that separate the mercury from dental amalgams, charge large
environmental fees for this service. The weight of amalgam is reduced
by fifty percent during this process.
For
this reason, used-gold.com, will store all silver amalgam at no charge
to you until a minimum weight (200lbs) can be achieved. Because there is
significant cost incurred by us, any money that may be recovered from
the silver material left over will be used by us to offset the legal
removal and shipping of this hazardous material.
